Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim
The Commander
Deathtouch
Whenever another creature you control enters, you gain 1 life.
Whenever another creature you control dies, each opponent loses 1 life.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with creatures and tokens, then turn their entrances and deaths into incremental drain that ends the table. Elas il-Kor converts every ETB into life and every death into damage, so you grind value while aristocrats sacrifice loops and token swarms whittle opponents to zero.
Strengths
- Closes games without combat through symmetrical drain triggers
- Cheap, low to the command zone, and recasts easily
- Rewards both go-wide tokens and sacrifice loops
- Deathtouch makes it a respectable blocker and removal magnet deterrent
Weaknesses
- Drain is only 1 life per death—needs volume or doublers to be lethal
- Heavily reliant on the commander; board wipes and graveyard hate hurt
- No card advantage built in; can run out of gas
- Vulnerable to lifegain/lifeloss prevention and exile-based removal
Key Cards
- Bastion of Remembrance — Doubles your death payoff so each creature death drains the whole table, stacking with Elas.
- Zulaport Cutthroat — Redundancy for the death-drain trigger, accelerating each opponent toward zero.
- Pitiless Plunderer — Turns dying creatures into Treasure, fueling explosive sacrifice loops.
- Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that loops tokens for repeated death triggers and mana.
- Grave Pact — Forces opponents to sacrifice creatures, multiplying death triggers and controlling boards.
- Cabal Coffers — Big black mana fuels recursion engines and X-spell token makers.
Upgrade Path
Add drain redundancy (Blood Artist, Cruel Celebrant, Bastion of Remembrance) and free sacrifice outlets (Viscera Seer, Carrion Feeder) to assemble loops faster. Include persist/undying enablers like Murderous Redcap and reanimation (Reanimate, Victimize) plus tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find combos. Tighten the mana with fast rocks and ensure protection for Elas via Swiftfoot Boots or recursion to keep the engine online.

Win Conditions
- ▸Infinite sacrifice loops (e.g., persist creature + altar + Elas/Cutthroat) drain all opponents
- ▸Go-wide token sacrifice for mass simultaneous drain
- ▸Incremental aristocrat drain grinding the table to zero
- ▸Occasional deathtouch alpha strike when boards stall
Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Elas turns sacrifice loops directly into life gain and opponent life loss.
- Tokens — Wide creature swarms generate massive ETB lifegain and death drain when sacrificed.
- Reanimator — Looping creatures in and out of the graveyard chains ETB and death triggers.
- Combo — Persist/undying or sacrifice loops with Elas plus drain doublers create infinite damage.
