The Commander

Flying, ward {2}

Whenever another nontoken Dragon you control enters, create a token that's a copy of it, except the token isn't legendary.

Guide

Gameplan

Ramp into Miirym by turn 4-5, then deploy big nontoken Dragons that each leave a copy token behind, snowballing into an overwhelming board of fliers. You win by doubling the value of every Dragon's enter-the-battlefield trigger and beating down through the air, often with extra combat or burn finishers.

Strengths

  • Doubles every nontoken Dragon's ETB, generating massive value off cards like Terror of the Peaks and Scourge of Valkas
  • Ward {2} and flying make Miirym sticky and hard to interact with cheaply
  • Temur colors give access to the best ramp, card draw, and Dragon payoffs in the format
  • Token copies stick around if Miirym dies, banking value you've already earned

Weaknesses

  • Hugely commander-dependent—if Miirym is gone, your Dragons stop copying
  • High average mana value means stumbling on ramp is punishing
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase a wide, expensive board at once
  • Token copies are nonlegendary but still trigger 'legend rule' issues only on the original; sequencing matters and can be clunky

Key Cards

  • Terror of the PeaksEach Dragon ETB (including the copies) deals damage equal to power, turning your board into a burn engine and a wincon.
  • Scourge of ValkasEvery Dragon entering pings for damage scaling with Dragon count, doubled by Miirym for explosive reach.
  • Dragon TempestCombines flying anthem with ETB burn that scales as copies flood the battlefield.
  • Kindred DiscoveryNaming Dragon turns every nontoken Dragon and its copy into two cards drawn, refilling your hand fast.
  • Old GnawboneEach combat with this Dragon and its copy generates a flood of Treasure to recast more threats.
  • Ancient Copper DragonThe copy means double the Treasure dump, ramping you absurdly ahead.
  • Dragonlord's ServantCost reducers are essential to chain multiple Dragons per turn under Miirym.

Upgrade Path

Trim clunky high-MV Dragons that lack ETB or attack triggers in favor of efficient value Dragons and stronger ramp (Three Visits, Nature's Lore, Signets). Add cost reducers (Dragonlord's Servant, Goreclaw) and protection (Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves) so Miirym survives removal and you can chain multiple Dragons per turn. For higher power, lean into the Terror of the Peaks + Ancient Gold Dragon + extra-combat lines and add fast mana like Mana Crypt and Jeska's Will.
