Ureni, the Song Unending
The Commander
Flying, protection from white and from black
When Ureni enters, it deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures and/or planeswalkers your opponents control, where X is the number of lands you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp hard into Ureni, then leverage its enters-the-battlefield damage (equal to your land count) to wipe opposing creatures and planeswalkers while attacking with an evasive, hard-to-remove 8-mana flier. Flicker and recur it to repeat the board-clearing burst, and close with commander damage backed by protection from white and black.
Strengths
- Protection from white and black dodges the most common spot removal and board wipes (Swords, Path, Damn, etc.)
- ETB scales with land count, often acting as a one-sided board wipe in a ramp deck
- Evasive 8/8-style threat that pressures life totals as commander damage
- Temur colors give access to elite ramp, card draw, and flicker effects
Weaknesses
- Eight mana means slow starts and reliance on ramp to cast it on curve
- Vulnerable to blue/red/green removal, bounce, and exile that ignores its protections
- ETB only targets opponents' permanents—does nothing to enchantments, artifacts, or life totals directly
- Color-screw and clunky high-curve hands can leave you defenseless early
Key Cards
- Ghostly Flicker — Reblinks Ureni to repeat its land-count damage burst, clearing another board each turn.
- Conjurer's Closet — Free end-of-turn flicker recurs the ETB without recasting, snowballing removal value.
- Cultivate — Cheap green ramp accelerates toward Ureni while padding your land count to boost its damage.
- Eternal Witness — Recurs Ureni and key spells, ensuring the dragon comes back after exile or sacrifice effects.
- Aether Vial — Cheats Ureni in for free or flickers value creatures, dodging counters and lowering its cost.
- Deadeye Navigator — Repeatable flicker engine that lets you blink Ureni at instant speed every turn.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Cultivate-style ramp plus dorks) and more flicker enablers (Ghostly Flicker, Eldrazi Displacer, Deadeye Navigator) to abuse the ETB consistently. Lean into landfall and high land counts with fetches and extra-land effects to maximize damage, and round out with tutors and protection like Heroic Intervention to land Ureni safely. For higher power, prioritize cheating it into play and infinite flicker loops to lock opponents out of creatures entirely.

Win Conditions
- ▸Repeated ETB damage clears the board while Ureni beats down for evasive commander damage
- ▸Flicker loops with Deadeye Navigator or Conjurer's Closet wipe each opponent's creatures every turn
- ▸Voltron buffs push lethal commander damage through the air
- ▸Out-valuing opponents into a grindy control win after stabilizing the board
Archetypes
- Blink — Repeatedly flickering Ureni reuses its land-count damage as a recurring removal engine.
- Ramp/Big Mana — More lands directly equals more ETB damage, so heavy ramp both casts and powers the dragon.
- Control — Ureni's ETB and protection let it function as a removal-laden, hard-to-answer finisher in a reactive shell.
- Voltron — Protection from white and black makes Ureni a resilient commander-damage clock with auras and equipment.
