Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful
The Commander
Whenever another legendary permanent you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on Yoshimaru.
Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)
Guide
Gameplan
Yoshimaru is a one-drop white aggressive commander that grows fast by flooding the board with legendary permanents, then closes the game with mono-white voltron beats. As a Partner, you pair him with another partner commander to add a second color, more synergy, and a backup threat. Turn to turn you deploy cheap legends and equipment, swing wide or tall, and protect your beater.
Strengths
- Cheap commander you can deploy turn one and start scaling immediately
- Partner flexibility lets you splash a second color and gain a second card-advantage or threat engine
- Rewards a legends-matter theme that synergizes with cards like Kethis and Captain Sisay
- Mono-white access to top-tier protection (Swords, Path) and equipment for voltron
Weaknesses
- Heavily dependent on a steady stream of legendary permanents to keep growing
- Vulnerable to removal and board wipes since value is concentrated on the commander
- White's notorious weakness at card draw and ramp can stall the deck
- Without counters, a 1/1 body is trivially blocked or chumped
Key Cards
- Captain Sisay — Tutors any legendary permanent to your hand, directly feeding Yoshimaru's counters and finding answers.
- Kethis, the Hand of Heng — Recurs legends from your graveyard and is a partner-friendly engine for a dedicated legends theme.
- Swords to Plowshares — Premier white removal to clear blockers or protect your voltron threat.
- Skullclamp — Solves white's card-draw problem when paired with small legendary tokens or expendable creatures.
- Heroic Intervention — If splashing green via partner, protects your board and commander from wipes and targeted removal.
- Esika, God of the Tree — Turns every legendary creature into a mana source, accelerating your legends-matter engine.
Upgrade Path
Choose a strong partner like Tymna the Weaver, Thrasios, Triton Hero, or a green partner for card advantage and ramp to fix white's weaknesses. Add fast mana (Sol Ring, mana rocks), better tutors (Enlightened Tutor, Stoneforge Mystic for equipment), and protection like Teferi's Protection and Heroic Intervention. Tighten the legends package with Sisay, Kethis, and Esika to make the counter engine reliable, and add an alternate win like an aristocrats or combo line via your second color.
