The Commander

The "legend rule" doesn't apply to tokens you control.

Whenever another nontoken legendary permanent you control enters, you may pay {1}. If you do, create a token that's a copy of it. That token gains haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.

Guide

Gameplan

Cadric copies your nontoken legendary permanents for {1} each time they enter, giving you temporary hasty clones that trigger powerful ETBs and attack immediately before being sacrificed. Build a deck stuffed with impactful legendary creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts, then flicker or recast them to double up on value every turn. Find ways to keep the tokens around permanently—since the legend rule is off for your tokens—to snowball into a board the table can't answer.

Strengths

  • Doubles every legendary ETB for just {1}, generating absurd value engines
  • Token copies dodge the legend rule, so you can keep multiple copies if you stop the sacrifice
  • Strong synergy with blink/flicker effects to re-trigger Cadric repeatedly
  • Flexible across creatures, planeswalkers, and legendary artifacts
  • Hasty token copies enable surprise alpha strikes and immediate attacks

Weaknesses

  • Fragile commander—creature removal shuts off the whole engine
  • Token copies vanish at end step unless you have a way to keep them
  • Needs a high density of legendaries to function, which can strain the curve
  • Wants extra mana ({1} per copy) so it can be mana-hungry
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that hit your token-heavy board

Key Cards

  • Sundial of the Infinite — Ends your turn before the end step trigger resolves, letting you keep token copies permanently.
  • Restoration Angel — Blinks Cadric or a legend to re-trigger ETBs and reset the copy machine.
  • Ojer Taq, Deepest Downfall — Triples token creation and its own copy compounds token strategies enormously.
  • Hammer of Nazahn — A legendary equipment whose copy doubles indestructible/auto-attach value and protects your board.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Free end-of-turn blink to repeatedly re-enter legends and spawn fresh copies.
  • Feldon of the Third Path — Another token-copy engine that stacks with Cadric for graveyard recursion value.

Upgrade Path

Add more cheap, high-impact legendaries with strong ETBs (Dockside Extortionist, Ojer Taq, Solphim) and reliable blink enablers to maximize triggers. Include Sundial of the Infinite and end-step trickery to keep copies permanently, turning value into a lethal board. Tighten the mana base with rocks and ramp so paying repeated {1} costs never slows you down, and add commander protection like Lightning Greaves to keep Cadric online.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with hasty token copies of beefy legendary creatures
  • ▸Repeated ETB value (damage, sacrifice, drain) from copied legends
  • ▸Permanent token armies made sticky via Sundial of the Infinite or end-step manipulation
  • ▸Planeswalker ultimates accelerated by copying loyalty abilities

Archetypes

  • Legendary Blink — Flickering legends repeatedly re-triggers Cadric for stacked ETB value each turn.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — Permanent copies of legendary creatures build a wide, evasive board the legend rule can't stop.
  • Value Midrange — A toolbox of legendary permanents lets you grind incremental advantage with copied effects.
  • Combo — Pairing Cadric copies with self-bounce or recursion legends enables loops and explosive token generation.
