Otharri, Suns' Glory
The Commander
Flying, lifelink, haste
Whenever Otharri attacks, you get an experience counter. Then create a 2/2 red Rebel creature token that's tapped and attacking for each experience counter you have.
, Tap an untapped Rebel you control: Return this card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
Guide
Gameplan
Otharri is an aggressive token engine: attack each turn to bank an experience counter and flood the board with tapped, attacking Rebels that snowball every combat. Lifelink keeps you healthy while you race, and the graveyard reanimation ability makes Otharri nearly impossible to remove permanently. You win by going wide, pumping the team, and swinging for lethal in a couple of turns.
Strengths
- Exponential token generation that scales fast and survives one wrath
- Built-in recursion makes the commander resilient and removal-resistant
- Lifelink on a haste flyer offsets aggro mirrors and racing
- Tokens enter tapped and attacking, dodging summoning sickness for immediate pressure
Weaknesses
- Experience counters persist but tokens don't—a board wipe sets you way back on bodies
- Must connect in combat to grow; flyers/blockers and fog effects slow it down
- Heavy reliance on the commander attacking each turn invites focused removal and pillowfort defenses
- Token swarm is vulnerable to sweepers, edicts, and Pyroclasm-style effects
Key Cards
- Anointed Procession — Doubles every Rebel token Otharri makes, dramatically accelerating the snowball.
- Mondrak, Glory Dominus — Another token doubler that compounds the experience-counter payoff each attack.
- Skullclamp — Turns expendable 2/2 Rebels into a relentless card-draw engine.
- Cathars' Crusade — Each token entering puts +1/+1 counters on your whole team, snowballing into lethal swings.
- Dolmen Gate — Lets your attacking tokens swing freely without losing creatures to blockers.
- Impact Tremors — Converts the flood of tokens into direct damage for an alternate aristocrats-style finish.
Upgrade Path
Add token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak, Parallel Lives effects) and overrun finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or Coat of Arms to convert quantity into immediate kills. Prioritize attack-trigger abusers (extra combats via Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebration) and protection like Heroic Intervention against the wraths that punish you. Round it out with efficient ramp and Skullclamp-style card advantage so a board wipe doesn't strand you.
