Akiri, Fearless Voyager
The Commander
Whenever you attack a player with one or more equipped creatures, draw a card.
: You may unattach an Equipment from a creature you control. If you do, tap that creature and it gains indestructible until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Akiri is a Boros equipment-aggro commander that suits up creatures, swings, and refills your hand off combat damage. You deploy cheap efficient creatures, load them with Equipment, and use Akiri's attack trigger to draw cards while her white ability protects your key beaters from removal and board wipes. The deck wins by going wide with equipped threats backed by a steady stream of card advantage that most aggro decks lack.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage from attacking with equipped creatures keeps your aggressive hand stocked
- White activated ability grants indestructible to dodge spot removal, blocks, and board wipes
- Cheap three-mana commander gets you attacking early and is easy to recast
- Boros has access to excellent low-cost Equipment and equip-cost reducers
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on the battlefield; vulnerable to creature wipes if Akiri isn't out to protect threats
- No built-in card advantage outside combat and weak interaction in RW
- Equipment without creatures (or creatures without Equipment) leaves you doing nothing
- Can be slowed by fog effects, pillowfort, and go-wide blockers
Key Cards
- Sigarda's Aid — Lets you flash in and attach Equipment at instant speed for free, enabling surprise attackers and combat tricks.
- Puresteel Paladin — Free equips with metalcraft plus card draw turns your Equipment into a card-advantage engine alongside Akiri.
- Stoneforge Mystic — Tutors your best Equipment and cheats it into play, accelerating your suit-up plan.
- Swiftfoot Boots — Cheap Equipment that protects Akiri herself while still triggering her draw on attack.
- Hammer of Nazahn — Gives equipped creatures indestructible and auto-attaches for free, perfectly synergizing with Akiri's combat-focused engine.
- Brass Squire — Repeatable free equips let you move Equipment around efficiently and react to threats.
Upgrade Path
Add equip-cost reducers and free-attach effects (Sigarda's Aid, Puresteel Paladin, Hammer of Nazahn, Brass Squire) so your mana goes into threats and attacks instead of equip costs. Tighten the curve with cheap evasive creatures and impactful Equipment like Embercleave, Sword of Feast and Famine, and Lightning Greaves, and include fast mana such as Sol Ring and Boros Signet. Round out with targeted removal (Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile) and a couple of finishers like Reconnaissance or extra-combat effects to convert your card advantage into lethal swings.
