Izoni, Thousand-Eyed
The Commander
Undergrowth — When Izoni enters, create a 1/1 black and green Insect creature token for each creature card in your graveyard.
, Sacrifice another creature: You gain 1 life and draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Fill your graveyard with creatures via self-mill and sacrifice, then cast Izoni to flood the board with Insect tokens. From there you grind value with her built-in draw/lifegain sac engine and convert the wide board into a lethal swing or aristocrats payoff. The deck plays a midrange-into-engine game: dump creatures, recur, sacrifice, and out-card the table.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage engine that turns dead creatures into cards and life
- Generates a wide token board instantly, enabling tokens, aristocrats, and Voltron-adjacent plans
- Graveyard is an asset, so spot removal on Izoni rarely sets you back permanently
- BG gives access to elite ramp, tutors, and recursion
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on a full graveyard, so graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) is crippling
- Izoni's tokens stay home the turn she lands and the deck can be slow to close
- Sacrifice engine costs mana per activation, making it grindy without a free outlet
- No evasion or interaction in the command zone; vulnerable to board wipes before you rebuild
Key Cards
- Altar of Dementia — Free sacrifice outlet that mills you to refill the yard and can mill out opponents from a wide board.
- Stitcher's Supplier — Cheap self-mill that stocks creatures for Izoni's token count and the sac engine.
- Zulaport Cutthroat — Turns every sacrifice into incremental drain, converting Izoni's board into a win condition.
- Meren of Clan Nel Toth — Reuses experience counters to recur sacrificed creatures, looping value with the sac outlet.
- Grave Pact — Punishes the whole table every time you sacrifice, controlling the board while you build.
- Eternal Witness — Recurs key spells and combos with Izoni's recursion-heavy plan.
Upgrade Path
Add free sacrifice outlets (Viscera Seer, Carrion Feeder, Phyrexian Altar) so Izoni's draw isn't mana-locked, and lean into combo finishes like Gravecrawler loops or Craterhoof Behemoth. Improve mana with fast rocks and dual lands, add tutors (Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent) to find your engine pieces, and pack graveyard insurance to dodge hate. Prioritize self-mill enablers (Hermit Druid, Mesmeric Orb) to make Undergrowth explosive.

Win Conditions
- ▸Aristocrats drain via Zulaport Cutthroat/Blood Artist as you sacrifice the Insect swarm
- ▸Mill opponents out with Altar of Dementia and a wide board
- ▸Overrun-style alpha strike (Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede) with the token army
- ▸Recursive combo loops (e.g., Gravecrawler + sac outlet + drain)
Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Her sac ability plus drain effects turn sacrificing creatures into card draw and damage.
- Tokens — Undergrowth makes a huge Insect army that fuels go-wide and sacrifice strategies.
- Reanimator — Self-mill to load the yard pairs naturally with reanimation of big threats.
- Graveyard Value — BG self-mill and recursion let her rebuy creatures repeatedly for a grindy engine.
