Build with WyrmBuild manuallyCard details

The Commander

When Minsc enters, create Boo, a legendary 1/1 red Hamster creature token with trample and haste.

{X}: Until end of turn, target creature you control has base power and toughness X/X and becomes a Giant in addition to its other types. Activate only as a sorcery.

Guide

Gameplan

Drop Minsc, immediately get Boo, then use the {X} pump ability as a sorcery to turn Boo (or any creature) into a massive Giant and swing for huge trampling damage. You aggressively beat down while leveraging haste and trample to close games fast, supported by go-wide tokens or efficient evasive threats.

Strengths

  • Provides a free, hasty 1/1 with trample that can become a one-shot kill threat in a single turn
  • Repeatable activated ability scales with mana, demanding answers every turn
  • Strong Naya color identity with access to ramp, removal, and aggressive payoffs
  • Token comes attached for free, fueling sacrifice and aristocrats synergies

Weaknesses

  • The pump only sets base power/toughness, so a wipe or single removal spell after the buff wastes mana
  • Relies heavily on Minsc surviving and untapping to use the sorcery-speed ability
  • Can be mana-hungry to make threats big enough to matter
  • Vulnerable to fog effects, blockers, and damage prevention since it's largely combat-based

Key Cards

  • Boo, the Hamster — The native token is Minsc's primary target; pumping Boo with trample and haste threatens commander-damage or huge connections immediately.
  • Embercleave — Cheap to cast off a wide or pumped board and turns any trampling Giant into a lethal commander-damage swing.
  • Rampaging Baloths — Generates extra bodies and synergizes with landfall to keep pressure while you funnel mana into Minsc's ability.
  • Skullclamp — Boo is a 1/1, making it a perfect draw engine while you wait to suit up a bigger threat.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your buffed attacker and board from removal and wraths at instant speed.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, Cryptolith Rite) so you can pump creatures to lethal sizes earlier and afford to recast Minsc. Include protection and evasion (Lightning Greaves, Rogue's Passage, Heroic Intervention) to ensure your buffed threats connect, and consider trample-overrun finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or a free-spell Embercleave for explosive one-turn kills.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander/voltron damage via a pumped, trampling Giant carrying Embercleave or other equipment
  • ▸Going wide with tokens and ending with an overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth
  • ▸Repeatedly buffing evasive threats to grind opponents down through combat
  • ▸Aristocrats drain using sacrificed Boo tokens and payoffs like Blood Artist

Archetypes

  • Voltron — The {X} ability turns a single creature into a giant trampling threat ideal for commander damage and equipment.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — Naya excels at making creatures, and Minsc can convert any one of them into a finisher each turn.
  • Aristocrats — Free Boo tokens plus reusable bodies feed sacrifice outlets and drain effects.
  • Aggro/Stompy — Cheap commander, haste, and big trampling beaters support a fast, beatdown-oriented gameplan.

Combos
