Sakashima of a Thousand Faces
The Commander
You may have Sakashima enter as a copy of another creature you control, except it has Sakashima's other abilities.
The "legend rule" doesn't apply to permanents you control.
Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)
Guide
Gameplan
Sakashima enters as a copy of your best creature while letting you ignore the legend rule, so you double up on powerful legendary creatures and ETB engines. As a Partner commander she's almost always paired with a stronger partner that defines the deck, while she provides a backup clone and protection from the command zone. Turn to turn you ramp into value creatures, copy whatever matters most, and snowball card or mana advantage into a combo or grind-out win.
Strengths
- Partner gives consistent access to two commanders and deckbuilding flexibility
- Cloning your best creature (or your partner) doubles powerful ETB and tap effects
- Breaking the legend rule lets you stack multiple copies of game-warping legends
- Mono-blue access to counterspells, card draw, and protection keeps her safe
- Cheap to recast relative to the value she generates
Weaknesses
- Does nothing impactful on her own without a strong target to copy
- Mono-blue half of the pairing is light on removal and ramp
- Vulnerable to board wipes since her value is tied to creatures
- Reliant on a good partner to give the deck a real identity
- Slow against fast combo if drawn into a copy-nothing situation
Key Cards
- Thassa's Oracle — Copy it to win immediately by emptying your library, especially with self-mill or Demonic Consultation.
- Spark Double — Adds another legend-rule-breaking clone, multiplying your best permanent alongside Sakashima.
- Cloudstone Curio — Bounces and replays cloned creatures to loop ETB triggers for value or combo kills.
- Cyclonic Rift — The premier mono-blue board reset that protects your cloned engine while crippling opponents.
- Phantasmal Image — Cheap clone that benefits from the legend rule waiver to copy any legend on the board.
Upgrade Path
Pick a high-impact Partner (e.g. Tymna the Weaver, Kraum, or Thrasios) to give the deck a real engine and second color reach. Add fast mana like Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, and dorks plus efficient interaction (Mana Drain, Fierce Guardianship) to enable earlier clone-based combos. Lean into a compact win like Thassa's Oracle with Demonic Consultation or Cloudstone loops so Sakashima's copies translate directly into a kill.

- ▸Infinite ETB or tap loops via cloned engine creatures and bounce effects
- ▸Copying a strong partner's combat or value threat to grind out the table
- ▸Big tempo advantage backed by counterspells and a beatdown threat
Archetypes
- Clone/Value Combo — She copies key ETB or combo pieces and ignores the legend rule to stack duplicates.
- Control — Mono-blue counters and bounce protect her engine while she generates incremental advantage.
- Partner Goodstuff — She lets you run a second, more aggressive commander to define the gameplan.
- Tempo/Tap-out value — Copies of mana dorks, untappers, or stax pieces snowball board state.
