Teneb, the Harvester
The Commander
Flying
Whenever Teneb deals combat damage to a player, you may pay . If you do, put target creature card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
Guide
Gameplan
Teneb is an Abzan reanimator-midrange deck that grinds value with a 6/6 flyer that can steal any creature from any graveyard whenever it connects. You ramp into Teneb, fill graveyards (yours and opponents') with mass removal and self-mill, then reanimate the biggest threat each combat. The deck wins through accumulating overwhelming board advantage and recurring bombs faster than opponents can answer.
Strengths
- Recursion engine on a flying body that can pull creatures from ANY graveyard, including opponents'
- Abzan colors offer the best removal, ramp, and graveyard interaction in the format
- Repeatable value loop is hard to deal with permanently once Teneb connects
- Board wipes synergize with the strategy by filling graveyards to plunder
Weaknesses
- Reanimation requires combat damage, so the engine stalls against flyers/blockers or removal on Teneb
- Commander tax and color-intensive recasting make repeated deaths punishing
- Slower to set up than dedicated combo decks; vulnerable to fast aggro
- Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) shuts down the core plan
Key Cards
- Buried Alive — Tutors three creatures straight into your graveyard as Teneb fodder for cheap.
- Wrath of God — Mass removal that simultaneously stocks graveyards for Teneb to raid.
- Whip of Erebos — Lifelink and a backup reanimation outlet that protects Teneb's combat steps.
- Sun Titan — Recurs cheap permanents repeatedly and is a prime reanimation target.
- Reconnaissance — Lets Teneb attack safely, deal damage, then remove from combat to dodge blockers.
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps lands to pay the reanimation cost and grants evasion/protection on the attack.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, mana rocks) and a reanimation backup suite (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Necromancy) so you aren't reliant solely on combat. Tighten self-mill and tutors (Buried Alive, Entomb, Vampiric Tutor) to set up huge targets like Razaketh or Archon of Cruelty, and include protection like Lightning Greaves and evasion enablers to guarantee Teneb connects. For higher power, build toward an aristocrats combo finish (Karmic Guide + Reveillark, or Gravecrawler loops) to convert the value engine into a deterministic win.

Win Conditions
- ▸Reanimate a parade of bombs and beat down with an evasive, ever-refilling army
- ▸Combat damage triggers chaining big creatures until the board is overwhelming
- ▸Aristocrats drain loops (Blood Artist, Gravecrawler-style engines) with sacrifice outlets
- ▸Steal opponents' best dead creatures to turn their removal into your advantage
Archetypes
- Reanimator — Teneb directly cheats creatures from any graveyard onto the battlefield each combat.
- Midrange Value — Abzan removal and grind tools let you out-resource the table over a long game.
- Aristocrats — Recurred and sacrificed creatures feed drain and graveyard loops naturally.
- Stax/Control — Mass removal plus reanimation lets you wipe boards while keeping your own threats.
