Whenever you attack, up to one target attacking creature can't be blocked this turn. Return that creature to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.
Choose a Background (You can have a Background as a second commander.)
Alora makes a creature unblockable each combat, then bounces it at end step—so build around attack triggers, combat-damage triggers, and ETB value creatures you happily replay. You jam an evasive threat (often Alora herself or a value attacker), connect for damage/triggers every turn, and recur a cheap ETB engine for incremental advantage. A Background patches mono-blue's weaknesses and pushes a chosen axis like card draw, ramp, or recursion.
Guaranteed unblockable attacker enables reliable commander damage, mill, theft, or saboteur triggers every turn
Built-in bounce turns ETB creatures into repeatable value engines (Snapcaster-style replays)
Background slot gives flexible second-commander scaling and color-identity glue
Cheap (3 MV) and easy to recast; supports a low curve and protective interaction
Mono-blue lacks efficient creature removal and struggles to break up board stalls
The forced end-step bounce can be a liability with tokens, attached auras/equipment, or fragile threats
Relies on connecting in combat—mass blockers, fog, or removal on the unblockable creature stalls you
Limited reach against fliers and big boards without a dedicated wincon
A mono-blue win condition that rewards going wide and tapping attackers for an alternate victory.
Lean into a focused axis with your Background—Clan Crafter or Candlekeep Sage for tempo, or Criminal Past for graveyard recursion—then add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crest) and tutors (Mystical Tutor) to find your engine. Tighten the curve with cheap evasive ETB creatures and protection like Swiftfoot Boots or counterspells, and add a clean combo or alternate wincon (e.g., infinite blink loops or Aetherflux-style payoffs) so you don't rely solely on combat.
