Arcum Dagsson
The Commander
: Target artifact creature's controller sacrifices it. That player may search their library for a noncreature artifact card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
Guide
Gameplan
Use Arcum's tap ability to sacrifice cheap artifact creatures and tutor powerful noncreature artifacts directly onto the battlefield, chaining toward a game-ending combo. You ramp with mana rocks, deploy expendable artifact creatures, and untap Arcum repeatedly to assemble engines or kill the table in a single turn cycle. Protect Arcum and go off, since the deck is largely a dedicated combo machine.
Strengths
- Repeatable, on-command tutoring that puts artifacts onto the battlefield untapped, bypassing mana costs
- Mono-blue gives full access to counterspells and interaction to protect the combo
- Can assemble multiple infinite loops, making it resilient with many redundant kill paths
- Cheap artifact creatures double as ramp, fodder, and combo fuel
Weaknesses
- Arcum is a fragile 1/1 that telegraphs intent and is a magnet for removal
- Tutors only your own artifact creatures, so you must keep fresh fodder available
- Heavily reliant on the commander and combo pieces; gets soft-locked by artifact hate (Null Rod, Stony Silence, Collector Ouphe)
- Mono-blue limits sweepers, life gain, and broad recovery if the engine is disrupted
Key Cards
- Mycosynth Lattice — Turns all your creatures into artifact creatures, giving Arcum unlimited combo fodder.
- Portal to Phyrexia — A devastating tutor target you can cheat in to wreck boards and grind value.
- Thousand-Year Elixir — Untaps Arcum and removes summoning sickness so he can activate the turn he lands.
- Voltaic Key — Untaps Arcum for extra activations and chains untappers/rocks together.
- Sculpting Steel — Copies your best artifact and is a flexible tutor target for combos.
- Faerie Artisans — Generates fresh artifact creature tokens each turn to feed Arcum repeatedly.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Mana Vault, Grim Monolith, Mana Crypt) and more untappers to enable explosive turns, plus the best blue tutors (Mystical Tutor, Fabricate, Whir of Invention) to find combo pieces. Tighten the combo package around compact infinite loops and back it with premium counterspells (Force of Will, Mana Drain, Pact of Negation) to protect Arcum. Replace clunky high-cost artifacts with lean, redundant pieces so you can win earlier and survive removal.
