Katilda, Dawnhart Prime
The Commander
Protection from Werewolves
Human creatures you control have ": Add one mana of any of this creature's colors."
,
: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with Humans, turn each one into a mana dork, then convert that explosive mana into a game-ending payoff. Early turns build a tribal Human board, mid-game you ramp hard off your own creatures, and late-game you either pump the whole team with Katilda's activated ability or dump mana into a finisher.
Strengths
- Massive mana generation by tapping a wide Human board for any GW color
- Cheap two-mana commander that comes down early and snowballs
- Built-in anthem/overrun effect via the +1/+1 counter ability
- Deep, well-supported Human tribal pool in green-white
Weaknesses
- Extremely vulnerable to board wipes that erase your mana engine
- Mana relies on creatures, so summoning sickness slows the turn they enter
- Two-color identity lacks strong interaction and card draw fixing
- Katilda removal cuts the mana-of-any-color ability immediately
Key Cards
- Champion of the Parish — Grows enormous as you flood the board with Humans, a key beater alongside Katilda.
- Thalia's Lieutenant — Anthem-on-a-stick that pumps your whole Human team when it enters.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your creature-based mana engine from wipes and targeted removal.
- Cathars' Crusade — Turns every Human ETB into stacking counters, snowballing alongside Katilda's pump.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — The premier mana sink that closes games once your Humans are generating huge mana.
- Sigarda, Heron's Grace — Protects your Humans from sacrifice and targeting while reinforcing the tribe.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and protection like Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection, and Cavern of Souls to insulate your engine, plus efficient draw such as Beast Whisperer and Guardian Project to refuel. Lean into a true combo finish—Craterhoof Behemoth or a token engine like Mondrak, Glory Dominus—and tighten the curve so Katilda's mana actually outpaces the table. Swap weak Humans for high-impact lords and ETB value to make the wide board lethal faster.

- Ramp/Big Mana — Tapping a board of Humans produces explosive mana to power huge spells and X-costs.
- Counters Matter — Katilda's activated ability and cards like Cathars' Crusade make +1/+1 counters a core theme.
