Stella Lee, Wild Card
The Commander
Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, exile the top card of your library. Until the end of your next turn, you may play that card.
: Copy target instant or sorcery spell you control. You may choose new targets for the copy. Activate only if you've cast three or more spells this turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Stella Lee is an Izzet spellslinger engine: chain cheap spells each turn to trigger card advantage on your second cast, then untap and copy your best instant/sorcery for free once you've cast three. You build a low-curve deck full of cantrips, rituals, and cost reducers to hit storm-like turns, generating value and eventually a lethal burn or copy loop.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage every turn from the second-spell impulse draw
- Free spell-copying that can double burn, ramp, or combo pieces
- Thrives on cheap interaction and cantrips that most Izzet decks already run
- Low mana value (3) makes recasting after removal painless
- Strong combo and storm potential with untappers and cost reducers
Weaknesses
- Needs to cast multiple spells per turn, so it stumbles on empty hands
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate and stax that taxes spellcasting
- Two-color identity lacks reliable wraths and enchantment/artifact removal
- Commander does little the turn it lands; relies on follow-up
- The copy ability requires three spells and a tap, so it's not always online
Key Cards
- Dramatic Reversal — With nonland mana rocks it untaps Stella to copy spells repeatedly, enabling infinite-spell combos.
- Isochron Scepter — Imprinting Dramatic Reversal creates the classic infinite mana and infinite-cast engine for Stella's copy ability.
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Generates red mana on each cast, fueling chains of cheap spells to reach three-spell turns.
- Mizzix's Mastery — A high-value sorcery worth copying with Stella's tap ability for explosive double casts.
- Underworld Breach — Recasts spells from the graveyard to extend storm turns and feed Stella's triggers.
- Aria of Flame — Turns every spell cast into mounting burn damage, an ideal payoff for high-cast-count turns.
- Jeska's Will — Refuels mana and cards mid-turn, and copying it with Stella doubles the burst.
Upgrade Path
Lower your curve and pack more rituals (Pyretic Ritual, Desperate Ritual) and cost reducers (Goblin Electromancer, Baral) to consistently reach three spells. Add the Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal combo and an outlet like Aetherflux Reservoir or Aria of Flame for a clean kill. Improve mana with fast rocks (Mana Crypt, Mox Opal) and tighten interaction with efficient counters and instant-speed removal to protect your engine turns.
