Ty Lee, Chi Blocker
The Commander
Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
When Ty Lee enters, tap up to one target creature. It doesn't untap during its controller's untap step for as long as you control Ty Lee.
Guide
Gameplan
Ty Lee is a mono-blue tempo commander who flashes in to lock down a key threat, then leverages prowess and a wall of cantrips/counterspells to grind incremental advantage. You play reactively—holding up interaction, blinking or recasting Ty Lee to keep tapping fresh threats—then close with prowess beats or a spell-fueled finisher.
Strengths
- Flash lets you hold up interaction and deploy Ty Lee at instant speed for blowouts
- ETB soft-lock taps down a commander or blocker indefinitely while she stays on the field
- Prowess turns a cantrip-heavy shell into a real clock
- Mono-blue gives unmatched access to counters, card draw, and protection
- Repeatable value via blink/bounce to keep tapping new targets
Weaknesses
- Only taps one creature at a time—weak against go-wide token boards
- Soft-lock ends the moment Ty Lee dies, so she's a removal magnet
- Mono-blue lacks efficient creature removal and struggles to break through stalled boards
- Low base stats (1 toughness territory) make her fragile without protection
- Reliant on having spells in hand to fuel prowess and stay relevant
Key Cards
- Ghostly Flicker — Reuses Ty Lee's ETB to tap a second creature and reset the no-untap lock onto a new target.
- Conjurer's Closet — Blinks Ty Lee every end step to perpetually lock down whatever you choose.
- Cyclonic Rift — The premier mono-blue finisher that bounces the board so your prowess threats and Ty Lee close the game.
- Snapcaster Mage — Flashes back interaction while triggering prowess, perfectly matching her tempo plan.
- Aetherflux Reservoir — A spellslinger payoff that ends games outright in a deck packed with cheap noncreature spells.
Upgrade Path
Lean into more zero/one-mana noncreature spells (Brainstorm, Mystic Sanctuary loops, Frantic Search) to fire prowess and dig consistently, and add free counterspells like Fierce Guardianship and Force of Will to protect Ty Lee. Tighten the blink package (Conjurer's Closet, Ghostly Flicker, Displacer Kitten) to weaponize the ETB, then add a compact combo finish such as Aetherflux Reservoir or a flicker-loop mana engine for a faster, more resilient kill.

Win Conditions
- ▸Beating down with a prowess-buffed Ty Lee and other evasive threats
- ▸Cyclonic Rift overload followed by an alpha strike
- ▸Aetherflux Reservoir or similar spell-count payoff for direct damage
- ▸Locking down opponents' key creatures while grinding card advantage to inevitability
Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Prowess rewards a deck stuffed with cantrips, counters, and burn-style instants.
- Tempo/Control — Flash plus the tap-lock lets you trade favorably and dictate the pace while protecting your threats.
- Blink — Repeatedly flickering Ty Lee turns her one-time tap into an ongoing pseudo-Stax lock.
