Ultimecia, Temporal Threat
The Commander
When Ultimecia enters, tap all creatures your opponents control.
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Drop Ultimecia to tap down opposing boards for an alpha strike, then connect with evasive creatures to refill your hand off combat damage. You play a mono-blue tempo/aggro-tempo deck that snowballs card advantage into a wide or tall beatdown, using counterspells and bounce to protect your attackers and keep blockers off the table.
Strengths
- ETB tap effect enables a safe alpha strike and can be reused via blink/recursion
- Strong, repeatable card advantage in mono-blue, a color normally starved for raw draw
- Mono-blue gives access to the best counterspells, bounce, and protection in the format
- Rewards going wide with evasive creatures, turning chip damage into card streams
Weaknesses
- Six mana and no immediate evasion of her own makes her slow to come online
- Card draw requires connecting with creatures, so she does nothing against a clogged board
- Mono-blue struggles with permanent-based removal and large blockers
- Heavily creature-combat dependent, vulnerable to board wipes and fog effects
Key Cards
- Cyclonic Rift — Overloaded it clears the board so your evasive team connects unimpeded for a massive draw turn.
- Coastal Piracy — Doubles down on the combat-damage draw theme, multiplying card flow when you go wide.
- Bident of Thassa — Adds redundant card draw on combat and can force opponents to attack, opening paths.
- Ghostly Flicker — Reblinks Ultimecia to repeat the mass-tap, effectively re-staging an alpha strike.
- Cryptic Command — Tap-down plus draw or bounce mirrors the deck's whole gameplan in one flexible spell.
- Whispersilk Cloak — Makes a creature unblockable and shrouded, guaranteeing reliable damage and draws.
Upgrade Path
Add cheap evasive creatures (fliers, unblockable, menace) and more flicker enablers like Deadeye Navigator or Conjurer's Closet to abuse the tap trigger repeatedly. Lean into fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt) and free counterspells (Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship) to deploy Ultimecia early and protect her. Stack additional combat-draw payoffs and a critical-mass finisher like Finale of Revelation or Stroke of Genius to convert your card flood into a kill.
