Wyleth, Soul of Steel
The Commander
Trample
Whenever Wyleth attacks, draw a card for each Aura and Equipment attached to it.
Guide
Gameplan
Wyleth is a Boros Voltron commander that loads up a single creature with Auras and Equipment, swings in for lethal commander damage, and refuels by drawing a card for every attachment. The early game is ramp and protection; the mid game is suiting up Wyleth and connecting with trample to draw a fistful of cards, snowballing into a one-shot kill.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage solves Voltron's biggest weakness—running out of gas after a board wipe
- Trample is native, so chump blockers can't save opponents from commander damage
- Cheap 3-mana commander gets going fast and recasts affordably
- Boros has the best Equipment/Aura tutors and combat support in the format
Weaknesses
- Classic glass cannon: all eggs in one basket, vulnerable to removal and edicts
- Heavy reliance on the commander; if Wyleth is answered repeatedly you stall
- Boros lacks deep interaction, counterspells, and recursion
- Auras create huge 2-for-1 risk when the creature dies
Key Cards
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands for double-spell turns while granting protection and discard, a premier Wyleth equipment.
- Shielded by Faith — Cheap Aura that makes Wyleth indestructible and adds to your attack-trigger draw count.
- Sigarda's Aid — Lets you flash in Equipment and attach Auras at instant speed to dodge removal and ambush.
- Open the Armory — Tutors either an Aura or Equipment, perfectly flexible for Wyleth's hybrid theme.
- Battle Mastery — Grants double strike, instantly doubling commander damage and trample output.
- Danitha Capashen, Paragon — A resilient backup body that reduces Aura and Equipment costs if Wyleth is unavailable.
Upgrade Path
Add more protection and evasion (Swiftfoot Boots, Whispersilk Cloak, Robe of the Archmagi/Faith's Reward effects) so a single removal spell can't blow you out, and lean on instant-speed attach via Sigarda's Aid and Leonin Shikari. Prioritize equip-cost reducers like Puresteel Paladin and Sram, Senior Edificer for explosive turns, and include double-strike enablers plus extra-combat effects (Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebrant) to turn a connected Wyleth into a kill. A reanimation/recursion package (Brilliant Restoration, Open the Vaults) hedges against board wipes.

- Auras/Hexproof Enchantress — Loading hexproof/indestructible Auras protects Wyleth while maximizing the attack-trigger draw.
