Winota, Joiner of Forces
The Commander
Whenever a non-Human creature you control attacks, look at the top six cards of your library. You may put a Human creature card from among them onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. It gains indestructible until end of turn. Put the rest of the cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with cheap non-Human creatures (especially tokens), swing wide, and use each non-Human attacker's trigger to dig six cards deep and drop powerful Humans onto the battlefield tapped and attacking for free. Snowball value-laden Humans like Angrath's Marauders, Combat Celebrant, and Kiki-Jiki into either a lethal alpha strike or a hard combo kill, usually as early as turn 4-6.
Strengths
- Generates explosive free mana value—triggers cheat in Humans worth far more than you paid
- Goes wide quickly and punishes opponents who can't sweep early
- Access to strong combo finishes (Kiki-Jiki, Combat Celebrant) for fast kills
- Aggressive Boros plan that pressures the table from the start
Weaknesses
- Extremely commander-dependent; the deck stalls hard without Winota online
- Vulnerable to board wipes and targeted removal on the commander
- Needs a critical density of both non-Human tokens and Humans to function
- Limited card advantage and recovery in mono Boros if the swarm is answered
Key Cards
- Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker — Copies a non-Human-triggering Human or pairs with Combat Celebrant/Zealous Conscripts for infinite attackers and value.
- Combat Celebrant — Hit off a Winota trigger, it exerts for an extra combat, chaining more non-Human triggers and Human drops.
- Angrath's Marauders — A Human that doubles all combat damage, turning a wide swing into a one-shot kill.
- Imperial Recruiter — Tutors any of the deck's key small Humans or combo pieces directly to hand.
- Krenko, Mob Boss — Pumps out non-Human Goblin tokens that each fuel a Winota attack trigger.
- Goldnight Commander — Each Human entering off triggers buffs your whole board for a snowballing alpha strike.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the non-Human-to-Human ratio so nearly every attacker triggers Winota and nearly every hit lands an impactful Human. Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Jeska's Will), efficient token engines (Krenko, Hanweir Garrison), and protection like Heroic Intervention or Teferi's Protection to survive wipes. Lean into the Kiki-Jiki/Combat Celebrant combo lines and tutors (Imperial Recruiter, Recruiter of the Guard) to make the kill more consistent and faster.
